Spanish company Derprosa, a leading manufacturer of high quality films, is also a major supplier of films for packaging and lamination in the food sector. In addition to being part of the package or container, they provide a high level of safety, hygiene and conservation to these products.

Different Derprosa films used in the food and home product industry are classified into two categories, depending on the properties they possess: Standard films and Specialty films.

Within the first category are the more traditional films such as transparent films including; cavitated pearl, matt film with white finish, the films generally used in the bags and wrappers for snacks and appetizers, bread, toast and pastries, and other food and household products. The company maintains that these provide an excellent barrier to water vapour and are resistant to oils, fats, acids and bases used in printing, protecting the food from external agents.

The second category which Derprosa offers has been developed from the company’s commitment to innovation, research and continuous development. These films offer very different properties, such as an Anti-Bacterial film, manufactured with what the company terms is a ‘unique and revolutionary solution’ for the food industry because it is marketed as eliminating 99.9 per cent of bacteria that comes in contact with the film. Derprosa said this film is suitable for packing fruits, vegetables and frozen foods.

Derprosa claim that using its Anti-Fog film, food can be stored within the container in the refrigerator for 15 days without fog forming on the inside, whilst in a film container with varnish, on the second day of being in the fridge; mist will already have formed inside. Both the Anti-Fog Clear and the Anti-Fog Anti-Bacterial are printable and can be transformed immediately without having to wait for their properties to settle as is the case with other similar films, and also, the film Anti-Fog Anti-Bacterial film give the characteristics of being anti-bacterial. These qualities are especially recommended for fruit and semi-prepared vegetables, salads and frozen foods.

Another major innovation from Derprosa is the Biodegradable transparent film, a film with the same quality as the other Derprosa films but it degrades over a period between 18 and 36 months under certain conditions of temperature, light and humidity.
