GP Digital Goes ABSOLUT !

ABSOLUT Fringe is a 16 day festival of theatre, comedy, music, dance and spectacle held in Dublin during September. This year a host of international image-makers were each commissioned to customise a 2.6 metre high Absolute vodka bottle made from plexiglass as part of the event. Dublin city-based printer GP Digital which specialises in high quality large format indoor and outdoor display graphics and interior décor was asked to help with the graphics for two of the artists, Linda Brownlee and Mario Sughi.

Nyssan Deeb, Director and co-founder of the company explained.

“Ten artists from all over the world had to cover 2.6 metre high life-size Absolut bottles as part of a competition at the fringe,” she said. “We helped with the graphics, print and installation for two of the artists which is the first time GP Digital has done anything like this before.”

Every artist chose a different method of imaging his or her own bottle either by painting or various other methods including digital print and vinyl wrapping. The project in its entirety was completed in a large warehouse over the course of one week.

“Both jobs for the two artists were run on the companies HP Designjet L25500 latex printer”, added Deeb. “Mario’s work was a pink/blue illustration - fully wrapped bottle, produced on cast vinyl while Linda’s involved various regular vinyl pieces, all different sizes which she applied to the bottle herself. In the case of Mario’s work, GP Digital applied that for him.”

Recently GP Digital has upgraded its large format firepower with the installation of the HP Designjet L25500 latex printer to enable the company to slowly expand into new market sectors. It joins a stable of digital presses including a HP Designjet Z6200 photo printer, an older HP Designjet 5500 as well as small format production facilities which include a XEROX DocuColor 700 and a DocuColor 250 MFP. In existence since 2004 the company’s directors all come from a background in reprographics and have consistently built up a reputation for high quality large format indoor and outdoor display graphics and interior décor in the marketplace.

As Deeb said; “The idea of customizing drinks bottles by artists is by no means a new concept, but you have to say that these giant bottles really look great. And GP Digital was proud to play a small part in this huge project.”
