Sureprint beefs up production with a Mimaki CJV30-130.

Sureprint (Clonmel) Ltd, based in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary has just invested in a Mimaki CJV30-130 integrated printer / cutter to beef up its digital print production capabilities and expand its print offering to other market sectors. The company operates as a general printer from its main production hub in the town as well as from a Quick Print Service centre on O'Connell Street, Clonmel.

P.J. O’Neill, Managing Director of Sureprint explained the reason for the purchase.

“I have had a Canon iP9000 for a number of years but that’s water based,” said O’Neill. “Now although we bought a new large laminator six months ago which allows us to produce outdoor work, it has its limitations particularly on tee shirts. We also used our Xerox machines but they are oil based and when you transfer an image to a tee shirt they lose some colour and the end result is that the finished product is really not up to scratch. I needed a machine that would print a tee shirt, cut them at the same time and deliver a quality result. I looked at a number of options and at a recent exhibition in Cork I saw the integrated print & cut machine in action hosted by the Document Binding Company (DBC). Immediately I could see that it would give me a massive amount of potential over other similar printers. So a decision was made to purchase the printer from Dublin based Mimaki reseller, Reprocentre, which they installed the following week“.

The Mimaki CJV30 series boasts a fully automated print & cut workflow which means that no user intervention is required. It also has a choice of inks, including metallic, white, eco and low solvent.

“Although we only have the machine a very short time now we have produced a number of POP–UP banners on it and I’ve noticed that the material for those banners is very sturdy unlike the equivalent for the Canon which was quite flimsy,” said O’Neill. “There is also a much larger choice of substrate available to us now which means that we can expand our offering to customers - particularly labels. Most of our clients want these on outdoor material with at least one year’s life guarantee. Before the arrival of the Mimaki we could only cut labels in either a square or rectangle shape. Now I can offer many different “kiss cut” shapes which open up exciting new opportunities for Sureprint.

As the largest printer in Clonmel boasting significant litho, digital and finishing equipment, the addition of the Mimaki CJV30-130 integrated printer / cutter certainly appears to have given Sureprint many new options going forward.
