Scottish based DE Product Labels has installed an HP Indigo press ws4500 at its plant in Lanarkshire. The investment was made to allow the company to expand its customer base and break into new markets.

Established in 2004, the company is now one of the few label converters in Scotland with digital capabilities following the installation of its first digital press.

DE Product Labels existing customer base includes the bakery industry and engineering. The new investment has been made to enable it to target other markets, including high-quality versioned labels for whisky products and customers in the pharmaceutical, health and beauty sectors.

“New opportunities have opened up for us within the whisky market due to the rate of growth worldwide and the amount of companies in this sector who are Scottish based, so it is the perfect time to purchase a new press,” commented David Edwards, managing director, DE Product Labels LTD. “The HP Indigo press will allow us to offer things that we wouldn’t have been able to before, including allowing our customers to print versioned labels with metallic effects, and we are looking forward to fully exploring and utilising its capabilities.”

DE Product Labels chose an upgraded version of the HP Indigo press ws4500 to include the latest technical features. HP maintains that this delivers virtually limitless substrate and spot colour capabilities, making it possible for DE Product Labels to produce better quality labels for high-end label products. The company has said it will make use of the HP Indigo press’s short-run capability to provide its customers with cost-effective low to medium print volumes. It added that the press also nicely complements its existing flexographic equipment as the quality is consistent across both, enabling the company to utilise the technologies for one job.

Edwards said:

“Ensuring we can produce cost-effective labels as well as provide a flexible service for our customers was a very important factor when choosing the new press. The HP Indigo will not only eliminate the cost of printing plates, but also allow our customers to make changes on the press, whether that is a file change, colour or material substrate, and finalise the exact label there and then. We believe that we provide the Scottish market with a service not offered at present from another medium-size Scottish label producer, and the colour matching and consistency feature has enabled us to do this”.

DE Product Labels intends to use the HP Indigo press’s seven-colour functionality and variable data printing capabilities to provide distinctive, quality labels for new target sectors.

“HP is at the forefront in digital printing,” continued Edwards “Since adding digital capabilities to our offering we now have more capacity and are planning more shifts, therefore putting us in a great position to win new business and extend our customer base. We believe that every customer matters and the HP Indigo will allow us to provide a service that demonstrates that.”
