The venture is an initiative which is aimed at raising £100,000 (€140,000) for the Institute of Liver Studies, a recognised European Centre of Excellence in King’s College Hospital, London.

It is being led by Ricoh Europe CEO David Mills, and Anthony has joined nearly 40 volunteers from across Ricoh’s European business in the eleven-day challenge, taking place from the 16– 27 May. Other well known names are also taking part in the challenge, ex-Barcelona and French international defender Éric Abidal, and ex-Lions and England Rugby International Neil Back.

Already Anthony has surpassed his personal fundraising target of €2,000 but is looking to keep the impetus going to help the team reach their overall target. Speaking about the challenge he said: “I have always enjoyed being outdoors, so much so that nearly all of my hobbies are activity-based. I took up cycling two years ago when a neighbour invited me to join the local ‘Travelling Kill Billies’, a cycling club based in Kill where I live.

“When I heard about the Ricoh imagine change Challenge, I was eager to get involved. It’s a wonderful initiative and one that’s close to my heart as we recently lost a beloved family member to liver cancer. I’ve also been delighted with the support of my Ricoh Ireland colleagues who have fully got behind me since I volunteered to take part in this challenge.”

The £100k raised for the Institute of Liver Studies will be used to fund new research into liver cancer, with the end goal of improving the treatment options for people with liver disease. King’s is considered the leading centre in Europe for the treatment of liver cancer.

More information on the challenge, the Institute of Liver Studies and how to donate is available on the Ricoh imagine change Challenge website: www.ricohimaginechangechallenge.com.
