HP has just purchased a German web-to-print and management information systems software company called Hiflex for an undisclosed sum.

HIFLEX is a global software solutions provider, specializing in the print and media industries. Its products include HIFLEX MIS, HIFLEX Print Support and an open Web-to-Print System called HIFLEX Webshop. The company is considered by many in the industry to be a world leader in the field of JDF networking and integration and its technologies will enable the computing giant to expand its portfolio of cloud technologies.

The move appears motivated by HP’s stated strategy of enabling users to be able to print anything anywhere via Smartphone’s, tablets, the cloud and social networking.

Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice-president, Imaging and Printing Group, HP said:

“HP wants to break the traditional barriers of how and where business customers print, making it easy for them to produce custom or personalised materials anywhere, anytime. Hiflex’s technology provides a powerful platform to deliver on this goal as part of our overall cloud printing strategy.”
