Creating new business opportunities for customers
A series of continuous and practical demonstrations is being organised by Océ, a Canon Group company, in conjunction with ZÜND Plotting Systems at the cutting giant’s showroom at Springfield Business Park, St Albans, Hertfordshire, from October 16-17.The purpose of the events is to demonstrate to printers how to streamline workflows, save labour costs, reduce waste and increase productivity.
On show will be flatbed systems from the Océ Arizona Series, an Océ ColorWave 650 poster printer, and ZÜND digital cutters.
Both companies have stated that these systems can print and cut virtually everything. From rigid substrates up to two inches thick to flexible roll-mounted vinyls, Océ said an Océ Arizona series printer will deliver the same top quality results. The company added that every model uses UV curable inks and Océ VariaDot™ technology to deliver near-photographic image quality. Each offers a roll media option for printing onto flexible materials and white ink. It also pointed out that the ZÜND digital cutters can finish nearly anything printed on an Océ Arizona Series printer.
Dominic Fahy, Océ UK Display Graphics Business Group Director, said: “Singularly, they are impressive machines. But together they can help users create new business opportunities for additional revenue and realise cost savings in the products they create every day.
“There will also be the chance to watch live demonstrations of the Océ ColorWave Poster Printer. This highly productive and cost-effective point-of-purchase (POP) printer changes the way customers create posters and make money from them. They can use it to increase throughput and reduce production costs for quick-turnaround POP materials as well as offload wide format, short-turnaround jobs to a faster, economical digital printer. It enables customers to react faster to competitors’ offers by printing retail posters in-house.”
The open days are from 9.30am to 5.00pm on 16-17 October 2012.

Re-scheduled exhibition to showcase four dedicated sectors of digital print.
The first details of the Digital Print UK show have been revealed by organiser Faversham House as a new, updated website went live for the inaugural event to be held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from 5-7 November 2013.
The exhibition will span three days and will be split into four dedicated areas – production, applications and output, wide format and digital labels.
Live demonstrations will be a big feature at the show. These will include production printing and wide format technologies which will be showcased by suppliers who are involved in the print supply chain from substrates, pre-press / media, press, post press, mailing and distribution.
With digital label production becoming of increasing interest to commercial printers as a new revenue opportunity, Faversham House says that it will be working closely with key media partners to deliver an additional footfall of converters and label printers from backgrounds such as flexographic or gravure.
It added that another important area will be a section for “applications and output” driven by digital printing technology. Commercial printers, brand owners and print specifiers keen on finding ways to take their business forward will have the chance to see the latest developments in digital print technology and discover how they can deliver increased return on investment.
Details of the show are now available on the up-dated website – www.digitalprintuk.net– which will act as a valuable source of information for both exhibitors and visitors including the latest news on the new show.
Faversham House will be making a series of other announcements in the run-up to the big event that will follow on from their other shows. These have included Sign and Digital UK, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in March.
Show director Rudi Blackett said: “The launch of our dedicated website for Digital Print UK will provide a rich source of vital information for show-goers. And, as a trusted show partner, both exhibitors and visitors in this important digital marketplace know it’s another vehicle to help us deliver another first-class event that’s not just about the latest products and software. This is a real opportunity for visitors to network, experience a mix of advice, demos and working applications of real value to their business.”

Arts and music festival to bring much needed tourism and culture to north-west Meath
The August bank holiday weekend is fast approaching and so too is the fifteenth year of the Le Cheile Festival in the town of Oldcastle, Co Meath. The festival which is all about the arts and music sees the local community coming together to bring much needed tourism and culture to north-west Meath.
Organisers have said that this year’s events have grown ‘truly huge’, and to handle the massive amounts of work needed, the town of Oldcastle has united to ensure a smooth, safe and efficient weekend of family entertainment.
Renowned Sheridan’s Cheesemongers will oversee and run the open air markets on Saturday 4th and 5th, and the Oldcastle Chamber of Commerce have also partnered with the Le Cheile Committee to ensure this exciting venture is a success.
Festival PRO, Fergus Govern said: “With the addition of the Sheridan’s brand this year, we realise that the streets of Oldcastle are going to be heaving with welcome visitors and patrons. Sheridan’s regularly pull in huge crowds of over 3000-4000 at their other events nationwide, so we knew that we would need to get the town involved in order to help us marshal this event.
And as per usual the town has responded. The Oldcastle Chamber of Commerce have enthusiastically joined with us to help stage the open air markets. Parts of the Square will be covered with a huge marquee to house the 40 plus stalls of Artisan Foods, Crafts, and Children’s events over the Saturday and Sunday. The Chamber are working closely with businesses in the town to manage traffic flow, parking and re-routing where necessary, and a solid plan is now being put in place, in conjunction with local Gardai, which will see volunteers help with directing and informing patrons of the available parking over the weekend.”
The Oldcastle Credit Union has also joined with Le Cheile in sponsoring the children’s events, which will include street performances, face painting, theatre, bouncy castles, bungee trampolines, plus a host of other events.”
One of the highlights will be the fire sculpture and fire dancing on the Square on Friday 3rd at 10pm, with Babylon’s Inferno. Another exciting event are the Freelancing Knights of Redemption, a troupe of medieval re-enactors that have featured in many Hollywood movies, including ‘King Arthur’, with Kiera Knightly and Clive Owen. The troupe will stage live shows throughout Saturday on the Square, with authentic weaponry, armour, and period dress. Organisers of Le Cheile say the streets will be alive with the clash of swords and shields, and it promises to be hugely exciting.
As with most Festival events, Le Cheile is highly aware of the need for a safe, family oriented environment accessible to all, and so many of the events are free this year. Some of the units in the town that have been un-occupied due to the down turn will be opened and will feature as Pop-Up Shops and also house the ‘Public Hanging’ Art Exhibitions and Children’s Art Workshops.
Organised by well-known local artist, and new Le Cheile member, Dave Gavin, the units will be dusted off, re-opened and provide artists with hanging space, and also allow the parents of Oldcastle to bring the kids on an art trail through the various shops, whilst allowing the sale of works of the artists involved.
Also on board this year are the Gilson Endowed Trust and Board of Governors, who have allowed the addition of a time capsule on the grounds of the Gilson School. The capsule will house snippets of modern day history, news items, details of local clubs, societies, items detailing the cost of living today, and of course details of this year’s festival. The capsule launch will take place shortly after the festival finishes, and will not be re-opened until 2037, to see how life in Oldcastle and Meath has changed in those 25 years.
Other Oldcastle associations coming on board this year include the Tidy Towns Committee, the Civil Defence, the GAA, the Soccer Club and the Writer’s Club, who will launch their second book of prose, ‘This Won’t Hurt’, a collection of A&E medical stories and anecdotes, on Saturday.
Govern added: “It’s always a great weekend when Le Cheile kicks off in August, but we’ve a feeling this year is going to be even bigger and better than before, and that’s before we even mention the huge music gigs we have with The 4 of Us, The Walls (formerly The Stunning), Bressie, Paddy Casey and the Republic Of Loose. I think it’s great that so many organisations have realised the huge amount of effort we put into this festival year after year, and without doubt, their help and enthusiasm will benefit both the festival and the town immeasurably. All we need now is the weather, and we’ve a man on that job as well.”

Some of the world’s largest brand owners will attend The Carton Conference, organised by BPIF Cartons at London’s Business Design Centre on October 3 - 4. It will also be attended by leading UK multiple retailers.
BPIF say they are very pleased with the attendees pledged so far and expect further companies to add their names to the list in the coming weeks.
Robert Davison, BPIF Carton’s Chairman, said, “The Carton Conference is expected to provide an unmatched networking opportunity and will be relevant to anyone with an interest in cartons – from suppliers to packaging specifiers. This interest in the conference reflects an exciting time for the carton sector particularly as the environment is at the forefront of many brand-owners’ minds. The conference will showcase the latest developments in materials and print effects which make them a natural choice for any brand owner.”
The Carton Conference enjoys a strong link with the easyFairs Packaging Innovations exhibition which immediately follows the conference.
