The new machine is capable of producing photo quality prints utilising a six colour process, white and clear inks and is scheduled to be unveiled at Photokina in late September 2012
Outdoor-durable prints and high image quality for a range of applications.
Océ, a Canon Group company, has announced the new Océ CS9300 Series eco-solvent printers which the company said offer productivity and image quality improvements over previous models. The Océ CS9300 Series printers – including the 162.5 cm (64”) Océ CS9360 model and the 137.1 cm (54”) Océ CS9350 model – are next-generation printers based on the Océ CS9160 and Océ CS9050 (respectively) eco-solvent printers.
“This refreshed line of printers brings more productivity to print service providers that produce outdoor-durable work,” said Attilio Mainoli, CEO of Océ Display Graphics Systems. “There are still many applications that are well served by eco-solvent printers particularly in the growing out-of-home advertising category, which includes items such as posters, transit advertising and convenience store advertising.”
Latest technology to cater for increased demand of transactional printing services
HP has announced that Trendcommerce (Schweiz) AG, part of the Trendcommerce Group, St. Gallen, Switzerland, plans to install two HP T230 Inkjet Web Presses. The purpose of the new investment is to fulfil the increasing demand for Trendcommerce’s transactional printing services and exploit new business opportunities. The company ordered the two Inkjet Web Presses at drupa 2012.
“Trendcommerce was founded in 1996, and from the beginning we have always focused on providing a personalised marketing message with digital technology,” said Filippo Zanchi, co-founder, part owner and head of operations, Trendcommerce. “Our customers and business prospects are increasingly looking to move all their offset print jobs to one digital supplier offering the right service and utilising the latest technology. These companies want to transfer high-volume jobs which require high productivity, flexibility and fast print speeds, and this is why we chose the HP T230 Inkjet Web Press.”
New digital capabilities to allow for further expansion
Scottish based DE Product Labels has installed an HP Indigo press ws4500 at its plant in Lanarkshire. The investment was made to allow the company to expand its customer base and break into new markets.
Established in 2004, the company is now one of the few label converters in Scotland with digital capabilities following the installation of its first digital press.
DE Product Labels existing customer base includes the bakery industry and engineering. The new investment has been made to enable it to target other markets, including high-quality versioned labels for whisky products and customers in the pharmaceutical, health and beauty sectors.
“New opportunities have opened up for us within the whisky market due to the rate of growth worldwide and the amount of companies in this sector who are Scottish based, so it is the perfect time to purchase a new press,” commented David Edwards, managing director, DE Product Labels LTD. “The HP Indigo press will allow us to offer things that we wouldn’t have been able to before, including allowing our customers to print versioned labels with metallic effects, and we are looking forward to fully exploring and utilising its capabilities.”
DE Product Labels chose an upgraded version of the HP Indigo press ws4500 to include the latest technical features. HP maintains that this delivers virtually limitless substrate and spot colour capabilities, making it possible for DE Product Labels to produce better quality labels for high-end label products. The company has said it will make use of the HP Indigo press’s short-run capability to provide its customers with cost-effective low to medium print volumes. It added that the press also nicely complements its existing flexographic equipment as the quality is consistent across both, enabling the company to utilise the technologies for one job.
Edwards said:
“Ensuring we can produce cost-effective labels as well as provide a flexible service for our customers was a very important factor when choosing the new press. The HP Indigo will not only eliminate the cost of printing plates, but also allow our customers to make changes on the press, whether that is a file change, colour or material substrate, and finalise the exact label there and then. We believe that we provide the Scottish market with a service not offered at present from another medium-size Scottish label producer, and the colour matching and consistency feature has enabled us to do this”.
DE Product Labels intends to use the HP Indigo press’s seven-colour functionality and variable data printing capabilities to provide distinctive, quality labels for new target sectors.
“HP is at the forefront in digital printing,” continued Edwards “Since adding digital capabilities to our offering we now have more capacity and are planning more shifts, therefore putting us in a great position to win new business and extend our customer base. We believe that every customer matters and the HP Indigo will allow us to provide a service that demonstrates that.”

Enlarged group can offer a broader range of services and expertise.
C3imaging with plants in the UK and Ireland has been acquired by Welsh-based Zenith Media and Zenith Print & Packaging. The company which specialized in digital print and display graphics was forced to enter a CVA (company voluntary arrangement) in February 2011 after being declared insolvent.
The group came out of the arrangement in February after "meeting its commitments in full" and continued to trade profitably.
It was approached by John Mooney, the present owner of Zenith Media and Zenith Print & Packaging some time later and, after a period of negotiations, Mooney took control of the group in May.
Industry sources have confirmed that C3imaging will retain its identity after the takeover. The synergy of the new enlarged Zenith Media group means that it will have the added capacity of C3imaging Group’s digital & litho range with its own litho production facilities which now "cover the whole gamut" of print production from digital and wide-format to B1 and B2 format litho presses.
It has also been revealed that a major investment in working capital has been initiated by Mooney to fund a large re-equipping programme across the enlarged group. This involves new small and large format machinery with ongoing discussions continuing with companies such as HP for additional presses.

Market continuing to grow for flag making.
The usage of flags as a marketing medium is on the increase and one of the reasons for this is the advent of digital printing.
Although flags have been in use for hundreds of years usually for ceremonies and military purposes the process was a laborious task.
Even as late as the 1960’s and 1970’s it involved a unique set of flat screens to create each colour in the design using screen printing production techniques.
One of the advantages of digital print is that it can cater for one off prints as well as dramatically improving turnaround speeds. It also means that flag makers can now cater for both volume jobs and one off’s economically. This has resulted in companies targeting new revenue streams for flags.
The definition of a flag has also changed. They can now be seen almost everywhere from retail outlets, garages, hotels even airport terminals.
With flags relatively inexpensive to produce it’s no wonder that they have become a vital marketing tool particularly for companies running a small advertising campaign.
And global blue chip giants as well as SMEs are also fast becoming aware of the benefits of using flags to promote their message/brand. Just look at the amount of flags that can be seen outside head offices and company buildings.
In essence, flags provide businesses with an excellent opportunity to make a big, highly colourful statement - and that’s critical in to-days crowded marketplace!
So why does this marketing medium continue to expand? Simple; greater awareness, low cost and meets the demand.

Development will open new opportunities and markets.
HP has announced an agreement with Handheld Group to develop and sell mobile printing products for the logistics industry based on HP's thermal inkjet print cartridges.
It said that it had granted the Swedish-based company a license to relevant patents for the electrical, mechanical and system design of a handheld inkjet printer with wireless communication.. Handheld Group manufactures PDAs and mobile computers for data acquisition in out-of-office applications. HP confirmed that the Handheld Group is the sole licensee of the design.
"We are very happy to sign this license agreement with HP, which will open new markets to us and ultimately benefit our customers," said Jerker Hellström, chief executive officer and chairman, Handheld Group. "By accessing HP's innovative printing technology portfolio, we can continue to create unique products. Our business partners and the end users of our products expect us to deliver cutting-edge technology solutions for their respective industries and businesses, and this agreement enables us to do just that."
It was also revealed that HP inkjet cartridges used in future Handheld Group products may include a quick-drying, smudge-free magenta ink formulated specifically for high visibility on substrates used in the logistics industry, such as brown corrugated boxes, kraft paper and packing tape.

Vista System’s new environment friendly flag signs installed in Poland
Vista System International, a leading manufacturer of Modular Curved Frame Technology (MCFT), has announced that it recently supplied its new VBS flag signs to the Polish company Agencja Reklamowa Raven for outside installation at a translation agency building located in Glogówek, Poland.
A number of criteria were set out by the client that included that the required sign solution was elegant and clean and in particular had to be eco-friendly.
Vista System's newly released environmentally friendly, ultra light VBS design was chosen because it met those requirements.
Vista said its new VBS design, released earlier in the year is the outcome of a five year long eco-design process. While the process allows for less aluminium to be consumed, the overall look of the sign has remained the same and invisible to the naked eye. The company stated that reducing the aluminium volume in the design process has contributed to a simpler manufacturing process.
The result is less material processing and smaller shipping volumes with a reduced environmental impact and the added benefit of lower pricing. The new design is also easier to assemble and supports the GS element that better grips the graphic inserts.
