Company installs an HP Designjet T7100 Printer to offer higher quality and faster turnaround times.
Reprohouse, a UK based printer located in Chelmsford has installed an HP Designjet T7100 Printer. The company made the investment as part of its expanding printing portfolio and to offer customers faster turnaround times and higher quality output.
It has a client base that spans a variety of sectors, from national housing developers to overseas development organisations. Reprohouse‘s range of services include CAD printing, digital archiving, poster printing and display services. The addition of the HP Designjet T7100 is designed to help it enhance its extensive capabilities and services even further.
"Our customer’s demand that their drawings and prints are produced to the highest quality and are right first time, every time," Graham Taylor, managing director, Reprohouse, explained. "We're printing a lot of different drawings from various packages and what's really great about the HP Designjet T7100 is that it's highly adaptable. We can be confident of producing output that is exactly what the customer intended and there is no compromise, which is worth its weight in gold in our business."
Using HP's Double Swath Technology, the Designjet T7100 Printer Series is said to deliver high speed and quality wide format printing. It supports most CAD applications on a broad range of operating systems and includes an embedded job accounting functionality to track usage and help manage printing costs. The product also features HP ePrint & Share, which allows design professionals to automatically create, print, share and manage project files online using desktop or mobile devices.
"Right now, there are lots of reprographics companies looking for a printer that delivers high productivity with significant cost reduction," explained Anne Sharp, category and marketing manager, Designjet, HP UK & Ireland. Statement from Patrick Chapuis,
Head of Production Printing Group,
Canon Europe:
LONDON, 7 March 2013.
"After careful consideration of our position, Canon Europe is announcing its withdrawal from IPEX 2014.
"This has not been an easy decision to make as we have previously had two successful shows at Ipex. However, just as we have encouraged our customers to 'see the bigger picture', we have had to look at our own bigger picture. This has involved a continuous assessment of the ways in which we communicate with our customers.
"We remain fully committed to our customers and to the printing industry as a whole, so with Canon and Océ solutions now addressing all segments of the market, we need to adopt the strategy that will most benefit our customers and indeed their customers.

Ground breaking customised
embedded promotional
print products to be demonstrated.
Talking Print, a leading worldwide supplier of audio and video-embedded promotional print products, will show audio-video marketing solutions at Technology for Marketing & Advertising 2013 (TFM&A 2013), to be held at Earls Court London, 26 – 27th February (Stand P4). The company announced that its products are set to revolutionise the way in which consumers interact with a printed product.
Talking Print will also use TFM&A to demonstrate its print audio technology through the use of one of its most recent projects developed for Monty Python's hit musical comedy theatre production, Spamalot. The company produced a short run audio Christmas card featuring the famous Python song, ‘Always look on the bright side of life' which was used as a personalised greeting from the cast and crew, and was sent to key contacts, friends and family. Talking Print said that by being produced in the UK, it was able to respond very quickly to the order and provide the high level of creativity, service flexibility and product quality expected from the customer.
David Hyams, co-founder of Talking Print, commented: "TFM&A provides the ideal opportunity to demonstrate to the creative community, the power of our technology and its potential to engage consumers/end users. Embedded audio and video in print is proven to not only extend recipient interaction, but when used for DM and promotional items, also significantly increase campaign response rates and success."
The company markets itself as a fast-track production service for the inclusion of high-quality sound or video cards in printed marketing material. These can include moving pictures, spoken messages and jingles, all incorporated into numerous promotional situations such as in-store displays, gifts, packaging, direct mail, greeting cards and brochures.
Bespoke video brochures are the company's leading and most popular product, particularly for seasonal campaigns. There are no minimum or maximum order quantities, and no restrictions on where the video can be placed or how it can be used. The Talking Print, rechargeable, video modules utilise the latest, high resolution TFT LCD specification and are available in many different sizes including high impact 4.3" widescreen and the latest 7" hi-tech version with touch screen technology.
The company offers a turnkey ‘partner' based service that includes working with the customer to understand the brand and campaign objectives. This service includes production, logistics, quality assurance, distribution and product storage. Crucially, Talking Print also helps creative's to develop and test multimedia concepts with speed, but for relatively small financial outlay. To enable this, the company has developed a model that enables cost-effective production of small quantities or samples within a few days from order placement. It believes this facility helps clients gain familiarity with the medium, quickly develop their concepts and demonstrate their ideas to customers - Ideal for high-impact seasonal campaigns it says.
Hyams added: "The most exciting part of bringing these products to market, has been working with creative's to explore the opportunities to enhance the printed medium. In doing this, it quickly became obvious that the full creative potential of this technology is yet to be explored, and that it is limited only by our imaginations.
"What's more, it has been great to dispel the myth that incorporating this technology is cost prohibitive, demonstrated by our customer case studies and rapid market adoption. Visitors to our stand at TFM&A will see that user experience and ROI from projects using audio and video-embedded print, speaks for itself."
Since the company was founded in 2011, Talking Print has developed a string of successful multimedia campaigns for several leading national corporations in the retail, food and beverage and leisure sectors.

Company to increase applications capability
with new machine.
HP has said that Display Signs, of Uxbridge, UK, has installed an HP Scitex FB700 Printer. The company made the investment to offer its clients a broader range of substrates and applications.
Display Signs purchased the HP Scitex FB700 through HP dealer, CWE Solutions, of Chessington, Sheffield and Surrey, to replace its previous UV machine so that it could provide customers with higher quality than it could previously, as well as faster turnaround times due to increased production speed.
"All the jobs we have done on the HP Scitex FB700 so far have been successful, and our customers have been impressed with the quality of the prints produced on the machine," said Alan Kelvey, director, Display Signs. "Our customers' requirements are getting more demanding, and after seeking advice from CWE Solutions, the FB700 was the obvious choice to fulfil their needs."
According to Kelvey, the ability to load while printing was another attractive feature for the company because it reduces interruptions and improves productivity.
Display Signs has already used the printer for several graphic arts projects, using flexible substrates such as acrylic and banners, as well as rigid substrates including Dibond and Correx.
"Printing directly onto rigid substrates has opened up new possibilities for us, as we can now offer an expanded service to both existing and potential customers,” continued Kelvey. “Being able to print onto materials such as Correx is fantastic and is just one media that extends the range of applications we can now undertake. The wide range of substrates allows us to be flexible for our customers, and mould to their needs.
"The ease of use of the printer was also a particular selling point - we have had the least experienced person running the machine with no problems."
HP maintains the Scitex FB700 Printer increases application versatility by printing on a wide range of rigid and flexible media. It pointed out that the printer offers a printing speed of up to 80m2/hr, and has features such as an optional white ink which enables print service providers to offer new application possibilities like printing on clear substrates.
Kelvey added;
"As a company we are driven by our customers and we adapt to meet their requirements. The White Ink will allow us to add the wow factor to projects we do, and we are looking forward to utilising this new capability.”

Emphasis is on high-quality production to
drive business efficiency.
Canon Europe has launched two high-speed A3 production scanners designed to allow organisations to process high volumes of documents quickly and reliably. The new imageFORMULA DR-G1100 and DR-G1130 are particularly aimed at centralised scanning application departments, such as digital mailrooms in corporate organisations, and specialised scanning bureaus. Canon believes they will also appeal to corporate organisations in the financial services, legal or healthcare sectors that need to capture and convert larger volumes of documents for digital processing and archiving.
The imageFORMULA DR-G1100and DR-G1130production scanners have been launched as successors to Canon’s imageFORMULA DR-6050C, DR-7550C and DR-9050C scanner models. The new scanners have impressive scanning speeds of up to 200ipm and 260ipm respectively, and both feature a 500-sheet automatic document feeder for processing larger volumes of documents in a single operation. Both new machines incorporate higher durability feed rollers, and the models have a suggested daily duty cycle of up to 25,000 and 30,000 scans respectively. Canon said that this performance is supported by a dedicated processing chip that helps maintain full-rated scanning speeds even when multiple image processing functions are selected.
An interesting feature enables users to process a wider range of document types thanks to a new flat paper feeding path, scanning from ultra-thin paper (20gsm) to thick card (255gsm), and using the folio mode feature users can even scan A1 sized documents. The feeding mechanism has three selectable feeding modes to cater for scanning batches of various document types. Staple detection sensors are also incorporated to help prevent any damage to documents, while a continuous manual feeding mode allows convenient controlled feeding to users when handling difficult documents and ensures smooth, productive scanning.
Sean Suematsu, European Document Scanning Solutions Director at Canon Europe, commented, “Streamlining the processing and distribution of information by converting paper documents to digital remains a critical area of focus for organisations looking to increase their productivity and reduce costs. That’s why many organisations that need to manage larger volumes of paper-based information are implementing ‘digital mailrooms’ where documents can be scanned and processed more efficiently. Fast and reliable scanning is crucial in those demanding environments. We’re responding to this need with the introduction of two high-quality production scanners replacing our successful imageFORMULA DR-6050C, DR-7550C and DR-9050C models with enhancements in speed, paper feeding and daily duty cycles.”
Other features of the imageFORMULA DR-G1100 and DR-G1130 include character emphasis for improved OCR recognition, and multistream output for dual output format processing. The scanners also have a range of optional features including a post-imprinter, barcode module and patch code decoder for additional control and automation.
Both scanners’ functionality can be extended further by connecting to Canon’s imageFORMULA Flatbed Scanner Unit 201or 101 for scanning A3 or A4 bound materials and books.

Total workflow system for
technical document environments.
Canon Europe has just announced the launch of the Canon imagePROGRAF MFP M40 Solution, a total workflow system for large format printing, scanning, archiving and sharing of colour and black and white documents.
The solution includes a Canon imagePROGRAF large format printer, a new M40 scanner incorporated via an integrated stand, MFP software and a large, easy-to-use touch screen interface which includes an active preview function. Canon is marketing the MFP40 as the complete solution for any size of workgroup that uses technical documentation - particularly in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) market.
Incorporating Scan-To-Copy/File/Email/Cloud Connectivity and print functions, the new MFP is designed to meet the speed and precision requirements of demanding CAD/GIS users. The Canon imagePROGRAF MFP M40 is capable of scanning images up to 40” wide at speeds up to 13” per second (in monochrome). It uses a new arrangement of Contact Image Sensor (CIS) to ensure images are captured with accurate, shadow-free line definition and at true 1200dpi optical resolution. Printing at 2400 x 1200 dpi with 4pl ink drop size, the MFP also has ‘hot swap’ ink tank technology which enables the ink to be changed without interrupting any print job.
Operated by the SmartWorks MFP software via the large 22” intuitive touch screen, the imagePROGRAF MFP M40 is capable of batch scanning for improved efficiency. With a built-in 250GB Hard Disk Drive, support for various file types such as PDF, JPEG and TIFF and the multiple configurations available, users can customise the solution to their exact needs and specifications. The solution is compatible with five large format printers from the Canon imagePROGRAF range – the iPF750, iPF815, iPF825 and the recently launched iPF760 and iPF765.
Yuichi Miyano, Director of Large Format Print, Canon Europe, said: “Previously architects, engineering and construction industries were the primary users of large format scanning and printing. However, as more and more diverse applications have appeared, we expect the market to grow accordingly. We’re seeing increased usage from utility companies, oil and gas firms and government town planning agencies to scan, archive and reprint plans and technical drawings.”
Yuichi added: “The Canon portfolio aims to respond to this demand. The new imagePROGRAF M40 system is an affordable option for high quality, large format scanning and printing. It is easy to operate, making it an incredibly versatile investment for any business wanting to boost the productivity of their imaging input to output.”
The Canon imagePROGRAF MFP M40 Solution portfolio is scheduled to be available in January 2013 through Authorised Canon Partners. More information is available on the Canon website at –

Digital wallcovering solutions from HP and
partners for high value interior décor market.
HP has announced a new HP digital printing solution for wallcoverings in an effort to help print service providers (PSPs) and wallcovering manufacturers capture more of the growing custom décor market. The company displayed its solution at Heimtextil 2013, Jan. 9-12th which consisted of a modular range of design software, media, printing and finishing options.
Components include:
- he HP WallArt Solution, a cloud-based web service that simplifies the design, visualization and production of customized wallcoverings;
- Solutions from new partner AVA, including design software and the AVA raster image processor (RIP) for file preparation as well as ripping with enhanced colour management;
A wide range of compatible wall decoration media from HP and partners, including coated and uncoated, non-woven, vinyl, paper and PVC-free substrates;- The HP Designjet L26500 and L28500 Printer series for printing proofs or short runs directly to production media;
- High-volume, on-demand wallcovering production with the HP Scitex LX600 and LX850 Industrial Printers, which provide environmental certifications such as the GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification Programme;
- Automatic, accurate panel cutting from partner Fotoba International.
"In the commercial, retail and residential markets, demand for unique décor is rapidly growing as both consumers and designers seek new ways to reflect their individual tastes, values and experiences in their homes as well as businesses," said Xavier Garcia, vice president and general manager, Sign and Display, HP. "The new digital printing solution from HP and our industry-leading partners helps PSPs and wallcovering manufacturers deliver this unique differentiation, bringing customers' creativity to life."
For customers interested in growing their wallcovering business, the HP WallArt Solution is being billed as an intuitive and easy-to-use design tool that allows PSPs or wallcovering manufacturers to design themselves or work with customers through the cloud to produce customized wallcoverings. The solution has been engineered to enable a designer to enter precise room dimensions and easily work around windows and doors, giving them more time to spend creating with an automated measurement process.
HP added that customers can also render realistic visualizations of wallcoverings using their own content for backgrounds, objects and text with advanced image quality as well as scaling features. It requires no special software or infrastructure support being cloud-based which in theory should allow for fast, convenient client reviews and approvals, keeping all parties involved throughout the process.
New HP partner AVA has delivered computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software to the printed decorative, textile and wallpaper industries for more than 20 years. Its design and file preparation software allows designers to work easily with repeated patterns. The software solutions have been developed to also improve colour management with accurate screen-to-print colour matching, accuracy between layers and the ability to match digital prints to analogue in a hybrid print environment.
HP said the AVA RIP gives customers increased colour control, faster ripping times and a seamless workflow from file preparation to printing. It pointed out that the RIP increases colour saturation and gamut for high-quality wallcoverings as well as helping achieve realistic colours on non-white media. As part of the fully integrated solution, the software also automatically generates cut marks for the Fotoba cutter, simplifying the cutting process.
Once the wallcovering is designed, customers can choose from a wide range of compatible substrates from HP and industry-leading media providers. HP Latex Printing Technologies have been internally tested with more than 25 wall décor media, including embossed, coated and uncoated, non-woven, vinyl, paper and PVC-free wallpaper substrates. Media profiles are available for download from HP at http://www.hp.com/go/mediasolutionslocator.
On the machinery front HP commented that the HP Designjet L26500 and L28500 Printer series allows customers to print proofs or very short runs directly on the production media, eliminating doubts about how the design will appear on the final product. These HP Latex printers are aimed at design studios or small PSPs due to their affordability.
At the other end of the scale for high-volume production of customized wallcoverings, HP offers the HP Scitex LX600 and LX850 Industrial Printers.
HP proofing and production printers with HP Latex Inks come with recognised indoor air quality certifications. The ink prints are GREENGUARD Children & Schools CertifiedSM, meet AgBB criteria and the inks have achieved UL Sustainable Product Certification. These produce odourless prints suitable for residential, healthcare and other sensitive environments as well as help improve the work environment with no requirements for hazard warning labels.
To transform the traditionally complicated process of cutting wallcoverings, HP has partnered with Fotoba International to help PSPs and manufacturers streamline workflow with automatic, accurate panel cutting. The new XLD 170 WP automatic cutting device is designed specifically for wallcovering panels to deliver accurate edge panel cutting on a wide range of media.
The new solution offers horizontal cutting and vertical slitting of multiple panels simultaneously on pieces up to 1.7m (5.57 ft) wide. The XLD 170 WP also works with the automatic cut marks created by a wide variety of RIPs including AVA, Caldera and ONYX.
All components of the HP digital printing solution for wallcoverings are available now from HP, AVA and Fotoba.
A free one-year trial license of the HP WallArt Solution is available now at www.hp.com/go/wallart.
