Former world number one needs to

control his frustrations on the course.

Rory McIlroyRory McIlroyIt’s been reported in the media that Rory McILroy can’t wait to compete in one of his favourite competitions, the PGA National, to be held in Palm Beach Gardens, from February 27th to March 2nd. The Northern Irish golfer won the tournament here in 2012 by holding off a late charge by Tiger Woods which also made him world number one.

McILroy, a twice major winner, is now ranked seventh, after a disastrous 2013 season. Last year he pulled out of the PGA tour event after only playing eight holes of his second round citing that he was in a “bad place mentally”.

His peers criticised him and even the legendary Jack Nicklaus commented that he had been wrong to walk off the course saying that if he “had thought about it for five minutes, he wouldn’t have done it”.

McILroy has a home in Palm Beach and said that this gives the tournament a special feeling – nearly like a home event.

Let’s hope he doesn’t replicate last year’s performance again at the PGA National, which he is quoted as saying was a “forgettable week”.
